Watch: Celtics' Derrick White struck in serious fan skirmish

A fan struck Celtics guard Derrick White in the head during Saturday night's football game between Colorado and Colorado State at Canvas Stadium, per a video released by TMZ Sports.

White — a native of Colorado who played his senior year for the Colorado Buffaloes — was at the arena to support his alma mater for the 93rd Rocky Mountain Showdown when a brawl broke out at the stadium's north end zone bar, the New Belgium Porch.

As seen in the video, the fight escalated when a Colorado State alum swung his arm at White's head, knocking the All-Defensive guard's hat off his head. A furious White had to be held back from retaliating by several people. White could eventually be seen leaving the premises.

The TMZ report noted that, according to one witness in attendance, White "got into a bit of a verbal spat" with Colorado State fans when Deion Sanders' team scored several field goals in the second quarter. However, the "arguing turned violent" when Colorado took charge of the game in the third quarter, leading to the Colorado State fan swinging his arm at his head. White's alma mater won the game 28-9.

No police report was filed regarding the encounter, TMZ confirmed.

Thankfully, the Celtics star didn't suffer any injuries with training camp for the 2024-2025 season just weeks away. Boston's squad is slated to assemble on Sept. 25 for the first day of practice before heading to Abu Dhabi for two preseason games against the Nuggets on Oct. 4 and Oct. 6.

White enters the 2024-2025 season to cap off arguably his best year as an athlete, as it saw him capture his first NBA title and Olympic gold medal, not to mention sign a $125.9 million extension to stay in Boston.

The defensive ace will play a critical role in Boston's attempt to go back-to-back after the city clinched its first NBA championship in 16 years earlier this year.
