Watch: Draft crowd boos as David Stern announces Webber trade
Akash Pamarthy / USA TODAY NETWORK

The NBA Draft isn’t the same type of event as the NFL Draft. Still, it has its moments and none were more dramatic than when the draft crowd booed a Chris Webber trade.

In 1993, the NBA Draft was held in The Palace of Auburn Hills, in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Chris Webber was the obvious first selection of the Draft. The fact that he was from Detroit and played for Michigan had the crowd ready to erupt.

They did when his name was called, as the Orlando Magic took Webber with the first pick. Only a few minutes later, the atmosphere changed when Commissioner David Stern returned to the stage.

The crowd erupted with boos when Stern announced Webber would be traded to the Golden State Warriors. More boos came when the crowd found out Orlando traded for Anfernee Hardaway.

Ultimately, both the Magic and Warriors made out fine from the trade. Still, it shows the passion NBA fans have for their players and the courage of Commissioner David Stern.
