Watch: Ref bumps into courtside server, causing drinks to spill during Pels-Blazers game
The Pels and Blazers players had to wait to return to action while a courtside spill got cleaned up. Steve Dykes-USA TODAY Sports

There was a delay during the second quarter of Friday’s New Orleans Pelicans-Portland Trail Blazers game after a courtside server spilled everything on her tray because of some contact from referee Mitchell Ervin.

The server made a risky decision to try to deliver the food while action was going on to her side of the court. The ball got tipped out of bounds near the server, so Ervin tossed the ball to set up the inbounds. Then he backed up into the server, causing her to spill the tray:

If that were bowling, Ervin would be credited with a strike for knocking everything down.

A cleanup crew of about five people came out to quickly clean it all up. Announcer Jeff Van Gundy had the clever idea to have Ervin pay for it!

Next time, the server should wait until there’s no action on their side of the court before trying to deliver food.
