Wayne Ellington Explains Why He Chose The Los Angeles Lakers Over The Brooklyn Nets

The Los Angeles Lakers drew plenty of criticism during the first couple of weeks of the offseason. 

People called them out for trading for Russell Westbrook and giving away the few shooters they had on their roster, claiming that spacing was going to be a major issue for them.

That's why they didn't hesitate to bring Wayne Ellington back to provide his sharpshooting skills, beating several other teams interested in his services, including the Brooklyn Nets.

Ellington eventually settled for a Lakers comeback as he felt like he was going to have a bigger role in LA:

“The type of interest that they showed stuck out to me way more than any other team. I had conversations in the past and before free agency had conversations with some of the guys on the team and it just felt like it was a perfect fit at the perfect timing," Ellington said in an interview, as quoted by Essentially Sports.

“There was some teams I looked at. Brooklyn was one. But LA was just, it was too good of a situation for me. Obviously, Brooklyn already has some shooters that do some similar things like I do in Joe Harris and a couple of other guys as well that they have. It was an easy decision for me," he added.

Ellington already knew both franchises as he played in Los Angeles in 2015 and then in Brooklyn the next year. Also, he knew that he'd have a big shot to win a ring once and for all, so it all came down to playing time.

That makes us think that Frank Vogel may think of him as a big part of his rotation, which doesn't seem like a surprise considering he's a career 38% shooter from beyond the arc.
