Wayne Ellington Says He Considered Joining The Brooklyn Nets Before Signing With The Lakers: “… It Was Too Good Of A Situation For Me”

Wayne Ellington is just one of the many names that returned to the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Ellington spent the 2014-15 season in LA, as he was trying to find a place in the league. But now he will get a second go-around with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ellington entered the league in 2009, and since then he has bounced around to several teams. In his career, Ellington has played for the Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Mavericks, Cavaliers, Heat, Lakers, Nets, Pistons, and the Knicks. He spent his last season with the Pistons, who were one of the worst teams in the NBA.

While he probably won’t be starting for them, Ellington is set to play an important role for the Lakers, more so than his first stint in LA. But Ellington was also considering joining another powerhouse from his past.

In a recent interview, Ellington revealed that he was considering joining some other NBA teams, including the Brooklyn Nets. The reason he didn’t go to Brooklyn was that they already had shooters, so his value to the team would be much less than that of LA. So that made the decision much easier for him.

“There was some teams I looked at. Brooklyn was one. Brooklyn was one. But LA was just, it was too good of a situation for me. Obviously, Brooklyn already has some shooters that do some similar things like I do in Joe Harris and a couple of other guys as well that they have. It was an easy decision for me.”

Ellington is a solid 3-point shooter in the NBA and has been brought into the Lakers team specifically for his shooting prowess.

With the Lakers’ trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook all being less than average 3-point shooters, Ellington’s ability to consistently score from beyond the arc will come in hand for the Lakers.
