After a disappointing end to their playoff run, Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic urged the team’s office for a roster overhaul. The team endured a grueling seven-game series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which exposed their lack of depth and limited rotation on the court.
The Nuggets were eliminated after a crushing 127–95 loss in Sunday’s do-or-die Game 7. Following the defeat, Jokić emphasized that the team’s downfall was largely due to the absence of a reliable supporting cast.
“We definitely need [depth]. I think we played so long in such a way that it’s hard for other guys to step up against two really good teams in Clippers and OKC. We cannot ask for somebody who didn’t play 20-30 games to jump in and be good and expect them to be good,” Jokic said.
“It seems like the teams that have longer rotations, longer bench, are the ones who are winning. Indiana. OKC. Minnesota.”

Denver’s misfortunes began piling up in the first round, where the LA Clippers also cornered them to seven games. Despite stars such as Nikola Jokic , Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Russell Westbrook, they were not enough to stop the Thunder’s relentless energy, extending to their bench. The Nuggets’ bench also performed inconsistently throughout.
The loss to Oklahoma marked the second consecutive year the Nuggets were eliminated in the Semifinals. Last season, they also fell in seven games, this time to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Nikola Jokic averaged 26.2 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 8.0 assists throughout the postseason. He notably carried the Nuggets by scoring 44 points in Game 5 and combined 49 points in Games 6 and 7.
During Sunday’s post-game interview, Nikola Jokić emphasized that the Denver Nuggets’ short rotation was a significant obstacle in their quest for a second championship.
Jokic played a pivotal role throughout the team’s playoff run. Still, after the crushing Game 7 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, “Joker” expressed growing concern over the reliability of his supporting cast.
“I mean, we didn’t. So obviously we can’t,” Jokic responded to a reporter. “If we could, we would win it, so I don’t believe in those ‘ifs.’ We had an opportunity, we didn’t win it, so I think we can’t,”
Nikola Jokic has three more seasons with the Nuggets, including a player option in his final year. He is still in his best years, although uncertainties of him winning his second title continue, especially amidst the team’s roster problems, something that needs an immediate solution.
