Victor Wembanyama led a big fourth-quarter rally as the San Antonio Spurs came from behind late to top the Chicago Bulls 121-117 at the United Center on Monday. The Spurs’ superstar scored 18 of his 38 points in the fourth, including scoring 10 consecutive points during one stretch. He later put his team in front to stay with back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute of the game. His effort gave San Antonio its third straight win. Here is a look at his record-setting night.

Wembanyama’s Historic Night In Chicago

Wembanyama’s late heroics capped off a night never before seen in NBA history. The 2023 number one overall pick went 6-for-9 on three-pointers and finished with 38 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, five blocks and one steal. Wembanyama is the only player in the history of the league to record at least 35 points, 10 boards, five assists, five blocks and five three-pointers in a game. He also gave the Spurs their first win in Chicago in over four and a half years.

De’Aaron Fox scored 21 points and added four rebounds and five assists to back up Wembanyama. It was just his second start of the season for San Antonio after dealing with a hamstring injury. Second-year guard Stephon Castle also pitched in 19 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and three steals, and Luke Kornet had 16 points and seven boards coming off the bench.

Bulls Backup Backcourt Steps Up

Despite Chicago being without their two starting guards, Josh Giddey and Coby White, their backcourt still led the way on Monday. Kevin Huerter led all Bulls’ scorers with 23 points and also had five rebounds and five assists. Tre Jones had 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Ayo Dosunmu added 20 points and five assists.

After big second and third quarter scoring efforts, the Chicago offense went cold in the fourth. Up 98-89 to start the final frame, the Bulls shot just 7-for-25 from the field (28%) and were outscored 32-19 the rest of the way. The loss was the team’s fourth in its last five games after starting the season 5-0.

What’s Up Next?

The win runs the Spurs‘ record to 8-2 on the season. San Antonio will now host the Golden State Warriors (6-5) in consecutive home games on Wednesday and Friday. Next up for the Bulls (6-4) will be a road game in Detroit against the Pistons (9-2).
