Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated in the 2025 Western Conference Finals last month.
Despite taking down two juggernauts, the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, in the opening round, the Minnesota Timberwolves met their match in the WCF.
It was none other than the eventual 2025 NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The series lasted just five games as OKC registered a convincing 4-1 series win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Anthony Edwards is by far the best player for the Timberwolves, and he is also a huge fan favorite. After all, Edwards’ in-game antics and explosive playing style made fans fall in love with him.
Considering this was Edwards’ second-straight conference finals exit, many expected him to be furious. However, Ant had a strange reaction to losing at the hands of the Thunder.
“Yeah, man, hey, season five [is] over with. Got my a__ whooped. KFC. UFC. USC. OKC in five,” Edwards said on his YouTube channel.
“I ain’t going to make [any] excuses. They put belts to our a__. I can’t be mad at that, right? We can’t be mad at that. … Win or lose, I’m still going to talk my s___. You got to win like a boss and lose like a boss,” he added.
Edwards’ initial reaction to endorsing the Thunder may have been confusing, but he ultimately showed great character to absorb the elimination. Ant also made a promise to be back stronger and better next season.
“This is the first summer in two years where I can work on my game. Lock in on that. I could really work on my game. But look, though, we’re going to be right back on their a__ next year,” Edwards stated.
The Thunder were undoubtedly a notch above the rest of the teams this season. But if the Indiana Pacers managed to push them to seven games, no reason why the T-Wolves couldn’t do that, right?
Well, the biggest reason behind the Timberwolves’ humiliating loss was the performance of their superstar, Edwards.
Anthony Edwards’ Stats | vs OKC Thunder | 2025 Playoffs Averages |
Points | 23.0 PPG | 25.3 PPG |
Rebounds | 7.4 RPG | 7.8 RPG |
Assists | 4.6 APG | 5.5 APG |
Field Goal Percentage | 47.1% | 45.3% |
Three-Point Percentage | 28.2% | 35.4% |
Aside from his FG%, Edwards’ numbers were down across the box score. This shows how Ant struggles vs the Thunder.
As head coach Chris Finch mentioned, Edwards needs to improve if the T-Wolves want to get to the next level in the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
