With success comes great reward. Although the San Antonio Spurs experienced grander triumphs by conquering the league with five NBA championships, a recent award accomplishment alludes to a deeper level of winning. The NBA crowned Harrison Barnes with the Western Conference Player of the Week award.
After the Spurs received a 110-93 throttling on Nov. 16, courtesy of the Dallas Mavericks, albeit without Victor Wembanyama, such a beatdown inspired their best 2024-25 season run. The Spurs' subsequent 3-0 run, led by Harrison Barnes, earned the NBA champion his first NBA Player of the Week award, given the 22.3 points on 61.8 percent shooting and 8.7 rebounds average through the previous week.
During the three-game stretch, the Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz, and Golden State Warriors. The Spurs' beating two Western Conference leaders alludes to their growth as a team. Without the Spurs' 3-0 record, another player outside Barnes would have earned the award.
Winning begets acknowledgment. Frankly, the Spurs' acknowledgment from the past two seasons derived from Wembanyama's star power. However, in light of the Spurs' recent success, the team complemented its star, providing a warranted appreciation from the league.
At 9-8, the Spurs' future could include more than a weekly award.
