What Bronny James Said About LeBron James’ Future

LeBron James' future with the Los Angeles Lakers was a recurrent topic during the 2024-25 NBA season. Now that his season is over following a 4-1 elimination in their first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, James' retirement talks have resurfaced.

At 40, James is nearing the end of his career. His performances during the Timberwolves series and his apparent tiredness down the stretch sparked speculation about his future.

In the post-game conference, James talked about his future and how the team's roster would look after their first season under JJ Redick.

"It's a business," James said (via ESPN's Dave McMenamin). "So you don't know what the roster will look like next year besides the guys that [are] locked into contracts… I got a lot to think about myself. So I don't know what the roster will look like. I don't know where I stand right now."

James wasn't the only one to address his future. Bronny James, who became his teammate for this season, might have inadvertently announced his father's decision.

During a Thursday appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show," Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin shared Bronny James' assessment of his first year and what he's looking forward to in the future.

"I talked to Bronny about his favorite memories from the year, and he mentioned the surreal idea of going to work with his dad, and he said, 'I look forward to that for years to come'."

Bronny James' words should give Lakers fans hope about seeing LeBron James play at least one more season with the purple and gold. LeBron James has a player option worth $48.7 million for the 2025-26 season (via Spotrac).

They are on the right track with Redick, but Los Angeles must address a couple of weak links they have on the roster.
