Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors lost a nail-biter on Wednesday night to the Houston Rockets. It was a brutal 91-90 defeat.
The Rockets managed to outplay the Warriors down the stretch of this basketball game and it resulted in Golden State officially being bounced from the NBA Cup. They also dropped to a record of 14-10 for the 2024-25 NBA season as a result.
Curry had a solid, yet unspectacular game, in this one. He scored 19 points to go with five assists during the loss.
Another blown lead could not have sat well with the Warriors superstar. It was something that Anthony Slater made sure to ask Curry about once the game concluded. The four-time NBA champion was open with his response.
"It's a team trying to figure out who you are, what works, [and] what sets we need to be in," Curry told reporters. "Teams [are] selling out on our standard pick and roll, which I usually can make plays. Like I said, [if] I make that last shot, you might not ask about the last two possessions. It's kind of just the way the game goes. When you lose, everything is on full display."
Curry commented on a key issue that has plagued the team this season: "The pattern of scoreless droughts down the stretch has to be addressed or else we're gonna be a mediocre team. I take responsibility for not being able to get us organized and not being able to finish plays. [The] ball's in my hands, I gotta make shots."
Curry continued discussing the late-game issues: "I think we all can address certain sets that can get us into better shot creation type of opportunities, knowing how teams are trying to guard us, especially in the last five minutes. We're talking about it, we're experimenting. That's gonna be a defining point of our full season, if we figure it out or if we don't, because we're playing well enough to win most games."
The Warriors have posted a mediocre offensive rating of 111.8 this season, ranking 16th in the NBA. It gets worse in the fourth quarter. Their offensive rating drops to 110.1 in the final quarter of games, which places them 22nd among all teams.
It will be interesting to see where the Warriors turn to solve these persistent issues moving forward.
