Last Thursday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers were among the teams who were actively engaged in multiple trade talks, one of which sent Patrick Beverley to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Cam Payne and a future second-round draft pick.
Payne made his way over to the City of Brotherly Love in the midst of an down year for the 29-year-old, averaging six points on 45 percent shooting, which is a down four points from what he was averaging with the Phoenix Suns last season.
The former Murray State guard joins Philadelphia's squad of guards, which includes All-Star Tyrese Maxey, De'Anthony Melton, Kelly Oubre Jr, KJ Martin, and the recently acquired Buddy Hield.
Beverley leaves after only having spent half a season with the Sixers, most of which was spent coming off the bench for Nick Nurse, averaging six points on 43 percent shooting from the field while converting 32 percent of his shots from beyond the arch.
What does Cameron Payne's contract look like?
As it stands, Payne joins Philadelphia in the latter half of his one-year contract, which is worth $2.8 million, that he signed during the offseason with the Bucks.
While the 29-year-old is earning $2.8 million, his hit to Philadelphia's cap space is marginal at only $2.01 million, meaning he has the third lowest hit, only standing in front of Mo Bamba and Kenyon Martin Jr.
Given this, it would be the fifth expiring contract that Daryl Morey and the Sixers' front office have traded for this season, following the plethora of players that came in through the James Harden trade, which includes the likes of Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, the aforementioned Martin, and the recently departed Marcus Morris Sr.
Let alone being the fifth expiring contract brought in this season, Payne's expiring deal will become the Sixers' tenth such contract, which could become more of a talking point further down the line.
