Anthony Edwards revealed his frustrations after the New York Knicks' 133-107 beatdown at the expense of the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday. Despite hosting the game, the Timberwolves failed to compete with the Knicks. Edwards criticized former Knicks star and current teammate Julius Randle in his postgame comments.
Although Edwards came off as blunt and crass, his disappointment in the team is no secret. He previously reacted similarly to a loss in the 2024-25 season. Since Randle joined the team via trade as the Knicks received Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timberwolves experienced a dip in offense and defense.
Meanwhile, the Knicks have the second-best offensive rating in the NBA and are the third seed in the Eastern Conference. Towns provided the Timberwolves with an offensive identity, which Edwards noted his team lacks as it ranks 21st in the league in terms of offensive rating.
Edwards didn't hold back in his postgame comments.
“We don't have (expletive) on offense," Edwards said. "We don't have no identity. We know I'm gonna shoot a bunch of shots, we know Ju [Randle] gonna shoot a bunch of shots, and that's all we know.”
Calling out Randle in such a critical context speaks volumes about Edwards' perception of the former Knicks star's placement in the lineup. Edwards went on to claim that it was not on the coaches but on the players.
Edwards said, "The coaches put us in a great position, but we have to make it easier on each other," indicating his understanding of the Timberwolves' problems.
Conversely, Towns flourished against his former team, as he scored 32 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Although the Knicks fans adored Randle, Towns' 2024-25 campaign has triggered MVP discussion.
Edwards' irritation likely stems from seeing his All-Star veteran teammate Towns flourishing elsewhere while his replacement "shoots a bunch of shots" in losses.
