The Cleveland Cavaliers are taking on the Detroit Pistons tonight in the conclusion of a marquee Eastern Conference season series. However, things quickly went sideways for the team. In the third quarter, stalwart center Jarrett Allen exited the game due to an injury. Here’s what happened to him.
While going up for a rebound in the third quarter, Jarrett Allen seemingly twisted his leg, clearly a bit hindered. The injury wasn’t enough to completely debilitate him on the court, but soon after, Allen checked out of the game, immediately heading to the tunnel.
A few minutes afterward, Cavs reporter Serena Winters announced on the local broadcast that Allen was doubtful to return due to a right knee injury, but specifics on his status aren’t available yet.
Status alert: Jarrett Allen (knee) doubtful to return Tuesday.

Allen performed fine in his time on the floor tonight. In about 20 minutes, the center managed to log eight points, connecting on four of his seven shots, along with three rebounds and a steal. He also held it down on defense, helping contain Detroit center Isaiah Stewart to just four points.
This season has been a down year compared to last season for Allen, but he has still found ways to remain productive. The center is averaging 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds, but he has stepped up recently, averaging 22.3 points and 11.5 rebounds over the month of February.
With Allen off the floor, most of the big man duties went to Evan Mobley, who played nearly 32 minutes today, as well as third-string center Thomas Bryant, both of whom performed very well. Mobley finished the game with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals, whereas Bryant added nine points with two three-pointers, including a massive four-point play.
Unfortunately for the Cavs, the injury bug seems to have bit especially hard, despite their success following the James Harden trade earlier this season. Allen’s injury is the latest in a series of setback, including Harden suffering a broken finger, Donovan Mitchell dealing with a groin injury, and defensive specialist Keon Ellis dealing with a non-displaced fracture on his left index finger.
The Cavs have been dealing with injuries all season, whether that be to former team member Darius Garland’s toe, or Max Strus’ offseason Jones fracture, which has prevented him from playing the entire season. That’s what makes Allen’s injury more threatening.
If he also ends up being sidelined ahead of the team’s playoff run, Cleveland will have to take on yet another injury-riddled postseason push. Expect an update on Allen’s condition soon.
