What Individual Record Did T.J. McConnell Break?

Although the Indiana Pacers lost to the undermanned Charlotte Hornets 113-109 on Sunday evening, a silver lining shines in the box score. Pacers backup guard T.J. McConnell produced a career-high stat in a gutsy performance. McConnell showcased how imperative he is to the Pacers not getting blown out by the Hornets despite hosting the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

McConnell's veteran savvy hasn't saved the Pacers from a disappointing 10-15 start. However, his gutsy, timely performances indicate he's far from the issue in Indiana. In a game where the Pacers "stars" Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam combined for 18 points, McConnell put the shell-shocked Pacers on his back.

The backup Pacers point guard scored a career-high 30 points in 25 minutes. Much like his every-day game, McConnell's 30 points occurred without a 3-point shot registered. On a dominant, highly-efficient 14 for 19 shooting mark from the field, McConnell allowed the Pacers a chance against the missing-seven-rotation players- Hornets.

In addition to the impressive scoring, McConnell accumulated two steals and two blocks. Without McConnell, it's safe to say the Pacers would have lost by double digits against the Hornets.

While McConnell's career-high performance is impressive, it also indicts Haliburton's legitimacy as a star.

Haliburton scored a mere nine points in 36 minutes.

The Pacers insist (according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto) that they aren't interested in trading McConnell. However, if the backup guard continues to play superbly as the team dips deeper into the depth of the lowly Eastern Conference, they could receive future draft equity if they rescind their stance.
