Savannah James has kept to herself for years while running her household, but now she’s entering an entirely new realm of attention. James and her close friend April McDaniel have formed a holding company called Signed, based on their joint portfolio of women-centric businesses.
The news was delivered by James on Instagram in a picture of herself with McDaniel, along with an accompanying commentary.
“For me, building has never been about doing more. It’s been about doing what matters with the right people,” she wrote.
This statement was made from years of thought process, not a last-minute decision. In an interview with The Cut in 2023, James expressed that she had dedicated many years to being a mother and taking care of her husband as opposed to building her own brand.
Signed will serve as the parent firm for three firms currently running. As per Fast Company, these include Crown+Conquer, the creative studio that was started by McDaniel in 2016, the membership community called Let It Break created in 2024, and finally, their podcast titled “Everybody’s Crazy,” also established in 2024.
McDaniel explained the thinking behind combining them under one roof. “Once we really homed in on the purpose, it made us realize that we were sitting on something way bigger than we even imagined,” she told Fast Company.
This understanding made them seek external expertise instead of just going big. Signed is launching its operations in collaboration with MarcyPen Capital Partners, a private equity firm that was co-founded by Jay-Z, while they have managed to get Christopher Gray on board as chief creative officer.
James framed that decision as central to how she operates. “I’ve always been a champion of experts. There’s always somebody that’s smarter,” she told Fast Company.
The timing makes it coincide with the widespread interest surrounding LeBron James’ free agency move, but the way Savannah James looks at things, she is determined to create her story, regardless of all the attention her husband’s future plans may garner.
Her dedication to keeping it down-to-earth as far as family is concerned can be seen in yet another area in which the James family is engaged at the moment.
LeBron James is in no rush to decide his basketball future at 41. He can wait out free agency, and teams will still line up for him.
Staying with the Lakers makes sense given his comfort with teammates and coaches, plus Bronny is already there. Bryce is locked into Arizona for school, so a move would really only affect LeBron, Savannah, and daughter Zhuri.
That loyalty extends well beyond basketball logistics. A resurfaced clip this week showed LeBron addressing whether he’d ever remarry if things ended with Savannah.
Sitting right next to her, he said, “I can’t invest my time and my spirit and my heart again.”
He didn’t stop there either. “I already told Savannah, it ain’t going to happen because we’re doing this forever, same casket and everything,” he added, doubling down on the commitment.
The two go back to high school, welcoming son Bronny in 2004 when Savannah was just 18. They married in 2013, and more than a decade later, that bond still looks unshakable.
