Luka Doncic recently committed his future to the Los Angeles Lakers by signing a three-year, $165 million extension.

Doncic will also now be eligible to sign a record-breaking five-year, $417 million deal if he declines his player option in 2028.

Now that the superstar’s long-term future is sorted, he can focus on bringing an 18th championship to the Lakers.

While some question whether that is possible next season, Doncic seems convinced that the roster around him is good enough.

He even said something about the Lakers’ squad recently that was reminiscent of LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Luka Doncic makes LA Lakers comment reminiscent of LeBron James

Doncic was bullish about the Lakers’ title chances in the press conference after signing his lucrative new contract.

The 26-year-old is seemingly pleased with the offseason acquisitions of Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart.

First Things First pundit Chris Broussard “loved” Doncic’s comments and compared them to James’ years ago with the Cavs.

“I love the fact that he said, ‘I think we have enough to win it all.’ Whether they do or not, I think they’re in that top tier. OKC, Denver, Houston, and the Lakers. I put them right in that group,” Broussard explained.

“I think they’ve got a nice squad, and if Luka didn’t feel like they had enough, or even say it, then I would be like, ‘Are you all I think you are?’ He should believe that.

“I talked to LeBron when he had Delonte West, Mo Williams, and those guys, and he was like, ‘Man, we’ve got a squad.’ He really believed they could win a championship, which I love. That’s what I want.”

While Doncic will need to play at an MVP level for the Lakers to succeed next season, his teammates will also need to step up, so it’s a wise move to instill confidence in them.

Kendrick Perkins thinks Luka Doncic ‘motivated’ LeBron James this offseason

Doncic has often been criticized for being out of shape, but recent images of him in tip-top condition suggest that is no longer the case.

Kendrick Perkins thinks Doncic has now “motivated” James with his body transformation, prompting James to remind everyone that he’s working hard too.

“Luka Doncic just motivated LeBron James,” Perkins said. “I saw, as soon as the pictures and videos went viral and s___ on the internet, all of a sudden, LeBron back in the lab, the old man back in the lab.

“He’s always in the lab, but he had to post and let y’all know that. Let the world know that he was in the lab.”
