Michael Jordan is officially joining NBC’s NBA broadcast team as the network reenters the league’s media landscape next season. While Jordan’s exact on-air role hasn’t been clearly defined, the excitement around his involvement is undeniable, from NBC executives to league officials.

Noah Eagle, who spoke on the Awful Announcing Podcast, admitted even insiders aren’t yet sure what Jordan’s responsibilities will be. “I was told that he was legitimately excited,” Eagle noted.

NBC Sports executive Jon Miller, a longtime colleague of Jordan’s from the NBA on NBC era, played a key role in securing the partnership and confirmed that Jordan is “fully in.” According to Eagle, “I know Jon was instrumental in making it happen. And I asked him, I said, ‘Is he legitimately in on this?’ And he was like, ‘Yes, he’s fully, fully in.’ Whatever that means is great.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed surprise at Jordan’s decision, recalling how difficult it was to get him to participate in The Last Dance documentary. “I honestly didn’t think he was going to do it,” Silver told Dan Patrick, highlighting how rare it is for Jordan to commit to media projects.

The announcement has generated widespread buzz, not only because of Jordan’s legendary status but also due to NBC’s anticipated return as an NBA broadcaster. For now, fans and media await further details, but one thing is clear: Michael Jordan’s presence marks a major coup for NBC Sports and a potentially transformative moment for NBA coverage.
