Only 15 games into the season, the New York Knicks' star duo of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns showcased impressive chemistry. The 9-6 Knicks may not lead their conference standings, but their star duo trumps the league in "pick pairs," according to Synergy Sports.
Brunson and Towns complement each other as much as peanut butter and jelly, chips and salsa, and, in New York's case, a cat and a bodega.
Synergy Sports posted a stat on its social media listing the best duos in the NBA regarding the number of points per pick. The two New York stars lead in points per pick at 1.25 despite ranking third in total picks at 114.
In a short period, Brunson and Towns' chemistry blossomed. Despite a slow start to the season, New York's plan of pairing Towns's elite 3-point shooting with Brunson's bruising game hinted at future success.
Towns and Brunson needn't concern themselves with which of the two features is the first or second option, mainly because both stars succeed in either role. Towns had multiple 40-point victories, ending in single-possession scenarios, whereas the Knicks are 3-1 when Brunson scores 30-plus points.
Towns recently voiced why he's enjoying his time with the Knicks. As the pick stat suggests, he's helping put players in a position to succeed, and his teammates also benefit from the star's production.
"My teammates putting me in situations to succeed and Cap [Brunson] running the show, I think he did a great job commanding the game today," Towns said.
Although it's premature to crown the Brunson-Towns duo as the best in the league, the numbers speak for themselves.
