Stephen Curry’s sneaker free agency is heating up. Who is the Chinese brand ANTA, and why could they be the Splash King’s next sneaker home?
After ending his long-term partnership with Under Armour, Curry has now entered sneaker free agency. One brand, in particular, is turning heads and could become the new home of the four-time NBA champion. China’s ANTA appears to be the front-runner, sending shockwaves through the NBA and sneaker world, leaving rivals like Nike and Under Armour watching closely. But where will Curry’s sneaker future take him beyond the Golden State Warriors?
ANTA is a Chinese sportswear company known for its footwear, apparel and athletic gear. Founded in 1991, it has quickly grown into one of the largest sports manufacturers in the world. While it may not receive the same recognition as Adidas or Nike in Western sneaker culture, ANTA has built a dominant presence in Asia. The brand continues to grow through strategic investment and athlete partnerships.
In 2007, ANTA made its first move into the NBA by partnering with former Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola. The brand then later strengthened its basketball presence in 2010 by signing Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, marking a major step in its push toward global basketball relevance. ANTA has continued adding star power to its roster, securing a lifetime deal with Klay Thompson and even elevating Kyrie Irving to Chief Creative Officer in 2023.
Curry hasn’t signed yet, but the signs strongly suggest ANTA is a heavy favorite.
Curry ended his partnership with Under Armour in November 2025, closing his 12-year chapter as face of the brand. While the decision surprised some, it signaled a desire for a fresh challenge and a new vision for the next phase of his career beyond the court.
After releasing his final sneaker with Under Armour last week — the Curry 13 — all eyes are on the Splash King’s next move. Having reportedly earned $50 million annually with the brand, Curry looks to redefine the future of his signature line.
He’s already grown Under Armour to new heights, putting the brand firmly on the NBA map and could undoubtedly do the same for ANTA. The timing is perfect as ANTA continues to expand its basketball portfolio globally. Curry could be the ideal ambassador to drive this worldwide success.
