The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs locked horns as part of the 2025 California Classic Summer League.

For both the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs, it’s time to test the depths of their rosters by playing players who are yet to find their spots on the main roster.

Speaking of the matchup, the Heat registered a dominant 82-69 win over their Western Conference rivals.

One player that stood out on Day One of the Summer League for the Heat was 26-year-old Erik Stevenson. But who is Stevenson? Let’s find out.

Erik Stevenson’s NCAA and G League career

Stevenson originally declared his name for the 2023 NBA Draft, but even after spending five seasons in the NCAA, no team decided to select him.

Speaking of which, the 6’4″ guard, weighing in at 205lbs, enjoyed a stellar spell in the NCAA. Over five seasons, he put up 10.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in 159 matchups.

Stats Freshman Sophomore Junior (2020-21) Junior (2021-22) Senior
Points 6.5 PPG 11.1 PPG 9.3 PPG 11.6 PPG 15.4 PPG
Rebounds 3.7 RPG 4.7 RPG 3.6 RPG 4.7 RPG 3.4 RPG
Assists 2.1 APG 2.3 APG 2.1 APG 2.8 APG 2.5 APG

While Stevenson’s numbers are decent for a role player, he struggled to shoot efficiently during his collegiate career, shooting just 37.9% from the field and 32.3% from the three-point line.

After going undrafted, Stevenson spent two years in the G League, where he averaged 12.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 42.5% from the field and 34.5% from deep.

Erik Stevenson shines in his 2025 Summer League debut

Coming back to Stevenson’s California Classic Summer League debut, he played 23 minutes against the Spurs.

In those limited minutes, Stevenson put up 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in the 13-point win for the Heat.

The 26-year-old guard also shot a phenomenal 4-of-6 from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the three-point line.

Additionally, he was second only to Kel’el Ware in terms of scoring in the game. While it’s still too early to dish out a conclusive verdict on Stevenson, if he can continue playing at this level, he will likely impress the Heat coaching staff.

What’s next after that? Well, a two-way contract would be excellent for Stevenson at this point in his career.
