Who Is Molly McGrath? Meet ESPN's Stunning Sideline Reporter

ESPN has no shortage of great sideline reporters covering the many, many college football games that they broadcast throughout the year. One of the fan favorites in that group is Molly McGrath.

Born in California, McGrath has had a passion for sports since she was young. Her older brother Patrick played football at Princeton and she decided to become a cheerleader while she was studying communications and broadcast journalism at Boston College.

But while working as a cheerleader, McGrath got the idea to become a sideline reporter for the team and pitched the idea to BC's athletic director. From there, she was able to parlay her portfolio into various studio internships and a job at ESPN as a production assistant after graduating.

Since then, the arrow has just kept pointing up for McGrath.

From 2013 to 2016, she worked at Fox Sports while also doing work for the Boston Celtics. At Fox Sports, she quickly rose through the ranks as a news updates anchor to a sideline reporter for college football and basketball games.

In 2016, McGrath was hired by ESPN again and her career really took flight from there.

McGrath has done sideline and studio work for almost every major college sport for ESPN, most notably college football. She now ranks among the top sideline reporters at the network, with only the legendary Holly Rowe and Laura Rutledge above her in the pecking order for most games.

Most recently McGrath was the sideline reporter for the Sugar Bowl Game in the College Football Playoff.

When the deadly terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day hit, McGrath admitted that she was scared at first and wanted to go home. But she remembered how much she loves football and how it brings people together:

"2025 did not start the way any of us thought it would…a terrorist attack, a postponed game, and overall just feeling scared and wanting to get home to my babies. But today was a beautiful reminder about the power of human connection…A football game. A reason to smile. I feel so grateful," McGrath posted on Instagram.

McGrath has been married to her husband Max Dorsch, who works as a commercial real estate investments professional, since 2018. They have two sons who McGrath loves to share photos of on her Instagram account from time to time:

McGrath doesn't post quite as much on X as she mostly uses it to repost ESPN and college sports content though occasionally writes about some highlights from recent games that she either watched or worked on.

But when she does use, she's never been afraid to give her opinions either, particularly about the sport she loves to cover.

"We thought the 12-team playoff would make things a bit easier on the committee. WRONG. It’s going to be so hard to determine who should be in…South Carolina is one of those teams that can beat anybody. The biggest debate will be who’s the best 3-loss team in the country?" she wrote in November when the final College Football Playoff ranking was still being calculated.

Where does McGrath rank for you among the best ESPN reporters today?
