For the first time since 2016, the San Antonio Spurs will play on Christmas, which is the NBA's marquee regular season slate of games. At noon Eastern Time (11:00 CST), the Spurs will take on the New York Knicks.
The game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN with an alternate broadcast hosted by Disney characters streaming on Disney+. Last year, the Spurs beat the Knicks in overtime. Jalen Brunson recorded a franchise-high 61 points and wanted the game ball, but Victor Wembanyama, who posted 40 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists--and got the win--threw it into the crowd.
The young Spurs are excited about a chance to play in front of an international audience.
Jeremy Sochan, who grew up in England, says he and his family made watching games a Christmas tradition and is excited to participate for the first time in his career.
"It's crazy," he said. "I was actually just talking to Devin yesterday about it. As a kid, that's all you really dreamed of and that's all you watched on Christmas Day."
Rookie Stephon Castle, who usually carries himself like a seasoned veteran, allowed his childish side to show through with his excitement.
"I can't wait for it," he added. "I mean, I remember just growing up every Christmas, watching the Christmas game, so to be a part of one, especially in New York, where most of my family is at, it's going to be fun."
The Spurs and Knicks have yet to play each other since Wembanyama's masterclass, although the game will be must-watch TV for basketball fans, not just the Silver and Black loyal.
