Why Knicks Need Win Over Mavs

After the New York Knicks decimated the Denver Nuggets at the harshly high altitude of Colorado 145-118 on Monday, they felt like the king of the hill in various ways. However, the journey doesn't stop at one, as they battle the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday. A victory over the Mavericks on the road would amount to two signature wins in the 2024-25 season.

How are the Knicks 10-7 without more impressive wins?

The Knicks began the season 3-2 in their first five games, losing to the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers to commence the 2024-25 season. Although losing to the Celtics isn't shameful, considering they're the reigning NBA champions, how the Knicks lost sounded alarm bells early.

In the 132-109 loss on NBA opening night, the Celtics thoroughly outclassed the Knicks from the 3-point line, setting the tone for what it would take to beat the 2024 NBA champions.

Regarding their loss to the Cavaliers, who are a dominant 17-1, the Knicks' offense still hadn't found its groove.

However, since going 5-2 in their previous seven contests, the Knicks hold the second-best offense, regarding offensive rating, for the 2024-25 season.

Furthermore, the Knicks' chemistry is coming to fruition as OG Anunoby exploded for a career-high 40 points on Monday against the Nuggets, and Brunson led the game with a career-high 17 assists.

In a season with losses to the Atlanta Hawks and the Chicago Bulls, the Knicks look to leave such blemishes behind with a victory over the Mavericks. Although Doncic isn't playing on Wednesday, the Mavericks showcased competence without their superstar point guard in light of the 3-1 record sans No. 77.

Moreover, the Mavericks beat the Knicks 128-124 on Jan. 11 last season at the American Airlines Center without Doncic, as Kyrie Irving scored 44 points.

Given the history between the two teams, a victory in Dallas would boost the Knicks' momentum.
