Will Kevin Durant ever get to view his Warriors tribute video?

Durant left the Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets nearly four years ago. The Warriors were disappointed, but the parting was amicable—the team worked out a trade, and announced they would retire Durant’s jersey. And after two titles, two Finals MVP awards and a Finals run that ended with a Durant Achilles injury, the Warriors were thankful.

But Durant still hasn’t played in front of fans at the Chase Center, the arena the Warriors opened the year after KD left. He sat out 2019-20 with the Achilles injury, and played there the next year with no fans in the stands. The team played a video for KD, but it didn’t have much of an effect with no crowd.

Last year, Durant missed the trip to SF with a knee injury, and earlier this year, Durant injured his other knee six games before visiting the Warriors. Now he’s out with an injured ankle.

Once they finally get a chance to show the Durant video, Coach Steve Kerr isn’t worried about the fan reaction, even if Durant plays for the rival Suns now.

“I think our fans would give him a lot of love,” Kerr told reporters. “The applause and energy that he deserves for everything he did.”

With the Warriors in sixth place and the Suns in fourth, we may get to see if the fans still give Durant a great reception—even if it's in the first round of the playoffs.
