Reggie Miller is the ultimate representation of the Indiana Pacers. Former Pacers All-Star Paul George last attempted to rival the glowing example of how to play for a small-market NBA franchise. Since George's departure, only one other player lasted with the Pacers long enough to make an imprint in the franchise. However, a Los Angeles Lakers trade rumor threatens a historic feat for the Pacers.
Myles Turner ranks sixth in games played all-time for the Pacers. The Texas native has 10 NBA seasons under his belt, all with the small-market franchise. Although he's never earned an All-NBA selection, or an All-Star nod for that matter, Turner's defensive production encouraged the Pacers to keep the wheels rolling.
Turner's two seasons as block champion instilled Indiana's faith in the center as the franchise continued tinkering with its roster. The 2024 playoff run gave the franchise its best finish since 2014 when George helped lead Indiana to the Eastern Conference Finals.
If health permits, Turner can pass Dale Davis for fourth in franchise history in games played.
However, The Athletic's Jovan Buha reported that the Los Angeles Lakers had a past interest in the Pacers' center despite the Pacers not actively seeking such a trade.
Whether or not the Pacers engage in moving Turner at this time is another conversation. Yet, given the ever-changing NBA landscape, Turner's longevity with Indiana could come under fire considering the Lakers' desperation to improve.
Turner recently discussed the importance of his long-lasting tenure with the Pacers via The Weight Room, presented by Planet Fitness.
"The continuity of what I've done throughout my career...Just a decade in this thing is incredible, man," Turner said. "It's even more special doing it all in the same uniform."
In an era in which players change teams frequently, Turner's stretch with the Pacers signifies a player who seamlessly fits the franchise and the state of Indiana. With the Pacers incrementally climbing out of the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament window, trading Turner wouldn't make sense for their competitive aspirations.
Ultimately, Turner's record is safe unless the Pacers freefall in the standings.
