The NBA is the one league in all of professional sports in which the offseason potentially is more interesting than the actual season in recent years.
According to ESPN Senior NBA Insider, Shams Charania, the upcoming NBA offseason has the potential to be the craziest offseason ever. The offseason is about to turn into the Wild West.

Unfortunately for the Golden State Warriors and their fan base, there will be no major moves this offseason. The acquisition of Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline last season was their major move.
The organization will only be window shopping and looking for discounts this offseason. Due to their major acquisition last season, they don’t have the cap space to maneuver and acquire another big-name player. With three players on their roster making more than 25 million dollars a year (Steph Curry, Butler and Draymond Green), it is virtually impossible to add another large contract with the collective bargaining agreement rules and regulations.
ESPN NBA Cap Analyst Bobby Marks joined the Willard & Dibs show on 95.7 The Game to discuss how it will be difficult to make any major moves this offseason.
“I never want to rule out things," Marks said. "I see it extremely difficult, even though you have four first round picks to trade, even though you have pick swaps in the next seven years. I just think it’s extremely difficult to get Giannis if you’re in Golden State.”
As Marks noted, Golden State does have assets it can move: future first round picks, pick swaps and young players. But it will be very difficult to make moves with three players making more than $25 million dollars on their roster.
“The bigger salaries have become a challenge here (in Golden State) because you have 85 percent of salary tied up between those three guys," Marks added. "It does become a challenge if you’re looking to go out and do another blockbuster deal.”
With the direction that the Association is going with younger teams on the rise to prominence, Golden State doesn’t believe that trading away all their future assets, draft picks and young players to go all in for one or two seasons is a smart move.
Amid an offseason filled with big names potentially moving teams, the Warriors will not be making major irrational moves depleting their future to win now. The pipe dream of acquiring any more big-name players is over until further notice. The organization will have to focus on adding around the margins as it attempts to maximize the core of Curry, Butler, and Green.
