Brian Windhorst appeared on ESPN this week and insinuated that there was drama brewing between Luka Doncic and Jason Kidd.
Over the weekend Dallas squandered a 27-point lead over an injured Lakers team. After the disheartening defeat, Kidd offered pointed comments to reporters.
“I’m not the savior here,” he told the media.
“I’m not playing. I’m watching, just like you guys. As a team, we’ve got to mature. We’ve got to grow up.”
While appearing on ESPN this past week, NBA insider Brian Windhorst translated that message for the broader basketball-watching community, explaining that it was a crack at the team's young star.
“He’s calling out Luka Doncic,” Windhorst said.
“When he says they’re immature and have to grow up, Luka is the only one of five starters in his 20s. He was talking about Luka. Specifically, I think he was talking about how Luka got distracted in this game, complaining to the officials as the Lakers were making this big comeback.
“In the second and third quarters combined, Jason Kidd called one timeout. I think because he kind of wanted the Mavericks to try and figure it out on their own.”
Following that Lakers loss, the Mavs subsequently fell to Pacers before notching a much-needed win against the 76ers in primetime on Thursday.
