Wizards' Bradley Beal on free agency: I'm 'gonna be where I feel like I can win'

Three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal has spent his entire career with the Washington Wizards, but he could end that by opting out and reaching free agency this summer. Beal says that choice will come down to winning games.

Beal, 28, could stay with the Wizards on his $36.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season. He could also opt out and re-sign with Washington on a five-year maximum deal projected at $247 million. If Beal chooses to sign elsewhere, the most he could get is about $183 million. 

"I know what my decision will be based off of, and that's gonna be where I feel like I can win. That's going to be my decision," Beal told Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report. "If I feel like I can win in D.C., that's what I'm gonna do, and I want people to respect that. I'm gonna compete and I wanna make this team better. If it's elsewhere, it's going to be the exact same commitment."

Beal suffered a wrist injury in January and missed the last 33 games of the Wizards' season. The team finished 35-47 and missed the playoffs. Washington has made the postseason five times during Beal's time with the franchise but has never advanced past the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Beal averaged 23.2 points, 6.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds in the 40 games he played during the 2021-22 season.
