Wizards' Bradley Beal will reportedly undergo season-ending wrist surgery

The Washington Wizards are losing leading scorer Bradley Beal for the rest of the season due to wrist surgery, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Beal, 28, missed the last four games due to his wrist injury and the Wizards lost three of those games. In 40 games this season, Beal averaged 23.2 points per game with 4.7 rebounds and a career-high 6.6 assists. He is a three-time NBA All-Star, although Beal didn't make the Eastern Conference roster this season.

Washington had a promising start to the 2021-22 season with a 13-7 record through its first 20 games, but the team has struggled in the last three months and has just one win in its last nine. The Wizards are currently 24-29 and sit 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The loss of Beal for the remainder of the year sets the stage for an interesting situation between the guard and the Wizards in the upcoming offseason. While Beal is eligible for a max contract of five years, $245 million, he could also opt out of his deal with Washington and reach free agency.

NBC Washington reported that Beal and his agent met with Wizards management Monday before the team's 121-100 loss to the Miami Heat, although the subject of the discussion is a mystery.
