Wizards GM Drops Honest Assessment of 2025 NBA Draft Class

Another year, another draft where the Washington Wizards have to assess the incoming rookies. With the Wizards poised to hold a top-3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Wizards fans are looking to see how this draft class stacks up. There's two or three players considered as the best in the class, but how does the front office feel about the class in general?

Well, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins believes that this class is pretty good. In the exit interviews held by the team last Thursday, the GM noted that this 2025 rookie class seemed to have less international talent and more American rookies.

“It’s a good draft, not as internationally focused as it was last year. You’ll see a little bit more American talent,” Dawkins said. “We’re going to be happy to add another good young piece.”

The top prize in this year's NBA Draft is Duke phenom Cooper Flagg. A much-hyped prospect even before he went to Duke, Flagg is expected to go number one in the draft, no matter who wins this year's lottery. The Wizards, who have a 14% chance of getting the first overall pick, are hoping that their efforts won't go to vain and they'll get to draft Flagg.

Aside from Flagg, other intriguing players in the NBA Draft are Baylor's VJ Edgecombe, Rutgers' Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper, and South Carolina's Collin Murray-Boyles. Even if the Wizards end up falling to the sixth pick (their lowest possible draft pick, according to the new draft process), they should still have an excellent prospect at their hands.

As Dawkins noted, this year's draft has more American players than last year. Players like Alex Sarr (who was drafted by the Wizards), Zaccharie Risacher,Tidjane Salaün, and Matas Buzelis were just some of the foreign-born draft prospects taken in the first round. We'll see how this affects the Wizards' draft process.
