The Wizards are shutting down the Anthony Davis trade speculation. At least for now.
According to Marc J. Spears of Andscape/ESPN, Washington is not entertaining trade offers for Davis and isn’t listening to inquiries from rival teams.
Spears added that one NBA executive described Wizards general manager Will Dawkins as “a huge fan” of the 10-time All-Star, helping explain the organization’s current stance.
The report comes one day after Davis was linked to the Warriors as part of a series of blockbuster trade scenarios involving LeBron James.
As Hoops Wire reported Monday, league sources indicated Golden State viewed Davis as a potential target, though a trade would likely require a third team because the Wizards had little interest in taking back Jimmy Butler‘s contract.
Since then, the landscape has shifted.
James informed the Lakers on Tuesday that he will leave the franchise in free agency, while Spears’ report suggests Washington has no intention of moving Davis as things currently stand.
Of course, this is the NBA offseason, where today’s stance doesn’t always become tomorrow’s reality.
But at the moment, the Wizards appear committed to building around Davis rather than using him as the centerpiece of another blockbuster deal.
