The Wizards have added some depth ahead of training camp, signing guard Sharife Cooper to a two-way contract and bringing in Keshon Gilbert and Jonathan Pierre on Exhibit 10 deals.
Cooper, 23, was originally a second-round pick of the Hawks in 2021. That was back when Wizards executive Travis Schlenk was still running Atlanta’s front office — so there’s some familiarity here.
Cooper barely cracked the floor in his rookie season, appearing in 13 games for the Hawks, but he’s been a steady playmaker in the G League, averaging 19.3 points and 7.0 assists over multiple seasons.
Last year he took his game overseas, with stops in Greece, France and Turkey, where he logged 14.7 points and 3.8 assists per night in EuroCup play.
Washington’s other two-way players are Tristan Vukcevic and Jamir Watkins, giving the team a trio of young options to shuffle between the NBA and G League.
As for Gilbert and Pierre, both are Exhibit 10 signings, or essentially camp invites that can funnel them to the Capital City Go-Go if they don’t stick on the main roster.
Gilbert was already reported as coming aboard, while Pierre played for Washington in Summer League, averaging 7.7 points in 22.2 minutes. Both could earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if they spend at least 60 days with the Go-Go.
