Last week, the Philadelphia 76ers dealt with several key absences throughout their slate of games. This week, they are much healthier and starting the week off by facing a Washington Wizards team that has some notable prospects on the injury report.
Among those on Washington’s injury report is the star guard Jordan Poole. Heading into the matchup, Poole was added to the injury report listed as questionable due to a left ankle sprain.
Fortunately for Washington, Poole has been cleared for action after entering the matchup as a game-time decision.
Poole’s recent setback pops up after he played in the Wizards’ previous three games, including back-to-back matchups against the Orlando Magic on the road. Five days ago, Poole checked in for 30 minutes against Orlando. He struggled from the field, hitting on just three of his 12 attempts. Poole wrapped up the game with 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the five-point loss to the Magic.
This season, the 24-year-old guard hoped to find success in a more prominent role on a personal level. After spending the previous four seasons as a member of the Golden State Warriors, Poole found himself moved to Washington in the offseason.
So far, his run with the Wizards has underwhelmed. Not only is Poole averaging fewer points, but he’s struggled from the field, making just 39 percent of his shots and shooting 28 percent from three in his first 18 games with the Wizards.
It’s not just Poole who’s been struggling in Washington. As a team, the Wizards have been one of the NBA’s most underwhelming squads. Heading into Wednesday’s game, they possess just three wins across their first 19 games. The Detroit Pistons are the only team below them, ranking last place in the Eastern Conference with a 2-18 record.
Heading into Wednesday’s matchup against Philly, the Wizards are on a two-game losing streak, similar to the Sixers. Considering Poole accounted for 23 points in his first outing against the Sixers this season, Washington could use his services on Wednesday night.
