The Timberwolves are re-signing restricted free agent guard/forward Jaylen Clark to a three-year, $10MM contract, a source tells Chris Hine of The Star Tribune ( Twitter link).
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic first reported that Clark would be returning to Minnesota (Twitter link).
Clark’s projected minimum salary for a three-year contract would work out to roughly $8.4MM, so it sounds like he might get a little more than that. Clark has full Bird rights after spending the past three years under contract with the Timberwolves, who drafted him 53rd overall in 2023.
The former UCLA standout missed all of 2023/24 due to a torn Achilles he suffered in college, but he stayed under contract with Minnesota on a two-way deal. The 24-year-old remained with the Wolves in 2024/25, when he made his NBA debut, and was promoted to a two-year, minimum-salary standard contract in February 2025.
Known as a strong, versatile defender with a shaky jump shot, Clark averaged 4.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 68 games off the bench last season for the Wolves (13.1 minutes per contest). The athletic 6’5″ wing posted a shooting slash line of .434/.327/.657.
The Timberwolves’ roster is in flux after agreeing to a blockbuster trade that sends Naz Reid and several draft assets — most notably their unprotected 2033 first-round pick — to the Hornets LaMelo Ball and Josh Green. They originally agreed to send Julius Randle to Brooklyn in a separate three-team deal but it will be expanded to include the Hornets.
Bringing back Clark on an affordable multiyear deal will give Minnesota another depth piece on the wing. They’ll be hoping Ball’s play-making will bring out the best in Clark and several other players on the roster.
