Would the Phoenix Suns ever consider trading for star PG Ja Morant?

The Phoenix Suns are one of the few teams in the NBA that need to make a move to get them into the elite tier in the Western Conference, and have the trade pieces to do so. The trade rumors have been swirling around them, and Ja Morant has been linked in the past, but would it be a good fit?

Trade rumors continue to surround the organization, and for good reason. Phoenix has talent, recognizable contracts, and enough roster pieces to become one of the NBA’s most aggressive teams this offseason. But behind all the speculation sits one unavoidable truth: the Suns still do not have an elite point guard. That is why the possibility of Ja Morant keeps gaining traction.

On paper, the fit is obvious. Morant’s explosiveness and playmaking would finally allow Devin Booker to operate naturally as a scoring guard instead of carrying primary ball-handling responsibilities every possession. Phoenix’s offense too often stalled last season, especially when injuries disrupted chemistry between Booker, Jalen Green, and Dillon Brooks. The trio barely shared extended stretches together, making evaluation difficult and creating questions about long-term compatibility. Morant changes the structure immediately.

But talent is not the only variable anymore. Morant’s off-court history forces Phoenix to ask a larger organizational question: Are the Suns looking for stability or star power? Because while Morant remains one of basketball’s most gifted guards, availability, leadership, and maturity now matter just as much as athleticism.

That tension is what makes this situation fascinating. Whether Phoenix ultimately pursues a point guard like Morant, addresses size with Zion Williamson, or another star entirely, the franchise must figure out which direction to go in. The Suns have spent years collecting names. Now they need a system, an identity, and a leader capable of turning talent into postseason sustainability.
