The Sacramento Kings pulled off a blockbuster three-team trade on Sunday that shook up their roster.
In the trade, the Kings sent their star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs while also acquiring Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls. Sacramento made the tough decision to move on from Fox after he had not committed to the team long-term, but they now start the next chapter without him and now with LaVine on their roster.
LaVine has been in trade rumors for many years, but the Bulls were finally able to move on from him in this deal. The 29-year-old is having a great season and should make an immediate impact for the Kings.
On Tuesday, LaVine made a post on social media that thanked the Bulls for his time with the franchise while also making a statement ahead of his debut with the Kings.
"As I take on this new chapter with the Sacramento Kings, I’m excited for what lies ahead, but I’ll always carry the love and appreciation from Chicago with me,” Lavine posted on Instagram. “Thank you for everything. Let’s keep pushing forward."
It is clear from his Instagram post that LaVine is excited to join the Kings. Of course, he will also be reunited with his former Bulls’ teammate in DeMar DeRozan. The two played together for three seasons in Chicago and will now have the opportunity to play alongside one another once again in Sacramento.
LaVine should be a major upgrade for the Kings, especially offensively. This season, the 29-year-old guard is averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 51.1% from the field and 44.6% from three.
The Kings will need LaVine to keep up his incredible season after acquiring him to replace Fox, but he should fit in well in Sacramento as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
Fans can catch LaVine’s Kings debut on Wednesday against the Orlando Magic at 10:00 p.m. EST.
