Zach Lowe floated a possible Heat trade take that is terrible. As per the twitter page of @wadexflash and via the Michigan Wolverines SI page, Lowe gave this take. He commented that a suggested trade was Duncan Robinson and Terry Rozier for Bradley Beal. If it ever was to become reality, the combination of Beal and Herro hogging the ball would be toxic. No one else would get the ball. Bam Adebayo would ask for a trade and not one player would care about defense.
These are both players who need the ball in their hand. Tyler Herro teased many times last year that he wanted to emulate Steph Curry’s shot profile. He started the season playing off-the-ball but as posted by @bradyhawk305 with the injury to Dru Smith, he was put back to a primary ball handler.
It seems that Tyler Herro doesn’t know how to play off the ball. Last season, Tyler Herro would give up the ball to another player. Then he would stand still (waiting for the ball.) Herro would attempt to fake out his defender at times, but mostly, he would get the ball again and take a long shot. Duncan Robinson’s shot profile emulates Steph Curry more.
Bradley Beal’s “body of work” in Phoenix slows down the offense. Jack Baer reported via Yahoo in January that the Suns were outscored by 8.7 points per 100 possessions when Beal was on the floor. Although Herro and Beal can collapse a defense, neither player is comfortable “looking up” to get other players their shots.
The Heat have tried this before. Terry Rozier and Victor Oladipo were acquired for their ability to score, but they both were defensive liabilities. Herro could use a veteran professional player that can score and defend. The Heat do not need a ball-dominant player. The offense will explode if Kel’el Ware can progress to be Bam Adebayo’s defensive lieutenant. Then, Bam “can cook” on offense.
