The New Orleans Pelicans are trending toward their best record since the 2017-18 season. For Zion Williamson, playing this level of competitive basketball apparently gets the blood flowing.
Williamson hit a game-winner on Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs, finishing over three defenders with 3.8 seconds left to pull out a 114-113 victory.

As impressive as the bucket was, his response after effectively summed up the season for the Pelicans.
"I love this competitive s***. I live for stuff like this," Williamson said in the postgame interview to Jennifer Hale of Bally Sports.
The Pelicans are 28-21, tied with the Phoenix Suns for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference and just one game back of the Sacramento Kings at No. 5.
Williamson has put together an impressive season thus far, averaging 22.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. Most importantly, he's played in 39 of the team's 49 games and could wind up finishing with his most games played in a season. That highwater mark currently sits at 61 contests (2020-21).
