Controversial Donald Trump Biopic “The Apprentice” Gets New Release Date

Ali Abbasi's Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice, has a new release date, and it's coming sooner than you think.

The new movie stars Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump and serves as an "origin story" from when he started his real estate business in the 70s and 80s.

Jeremy Strong stars opposite Stan as infamous lawyer Roy Cohn, with Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, Martin Donovan as Fred Trump, Catherine McNally as Mary Anne Trump, Charlie Carrick as Freddy Trump, Ben Sullivan as Russell Eldridge, and Mark Rendall as Roger Stone.

The film premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, where it received largely positive reviews from critics, landing a score of 77% on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

TheWrap's Steve Pond says, "Abbasi approaches it as a Frankenstein tale", and BBC.com's Nicholas Barber says, "The Apprentice is destined to be berated by many as too flattering or too unflattering, but it's a cleverly composed snapshot of its subject at a specific time."

It has now been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that The Apprentice has been acquired by Briarcliff Entertainment and is eyeing a pre-election release date of October 11.

This also gives the film a chance to throw its hat into the ring for awards season ahead of the 97th Academy Awards set to take place on March 3, 2025.
