Mark Cuban Would Start This Kind of Business 'If I Was Broke'

Billionaire and Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban thinks artificial intelligence is the wave of the future as the technology continues to become more widespread.

In fact, Cuban said he believes the world's first trillionaire will be "one dude in a basement" who comes up with a new idea using AI, he detailed on the High Performance podcast.

“The technology is changing so quickly. Somebody will come up with a new way to utilize it in a way we never thought about before," Cuban explained.

So, it comes as no surprise that if Cuban had to start a business today with no money, he would focus on artificial intelligence.

“If I was broke, sleeping on the floor again, I’d be all about AI,” Cuban said on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast. “If I had access to a library and $0, I would be all about AI. I’d be in there till they kicked me out.”

Before he became a millionaire and then a billionaire after selling a pair of businesses he started, Cuban started a different business at the age of 24 that didn't go anywhere, and he did so with "less than $20," according to CNBC's Ashton Jackson.

The business? Selling powdered milk.

“I remember taking samples to people, mixing it up like, ’Look, milk’s expensive. We’re broke, right? This will save you money,” Cuban said.

“And just seeing the look on their face... Point taken,” he added.

That was just a tiny bump in the road for Cuban, who later started up and sold MicroSolutions and Broadcast.com for $6 million and $5.7 billion in stock, respectively. Today, Cuban is worth roughly $6 billion, per Forbes.

If Cuban's story tells entrepreneurs anything, it's this: don't give up.

And, if you're looking to start a business but don't have a lot of funds, you should probably heed Cuban's advice.
