Raise your hand if you had Corbin Burnes and Robbie Ray as your Cy Young Award winners prior to the 2021 MLB season.
On Wednesday, Burnes and Ray were rewarded for their stupendous breakthrough seasons by being named the best pitchers in their respective leagues. The 27-year-old Burnes finished up 2021 with an 11-5 record, 2.43 ERA and 0.94 WHIP to go along with 234 Ks in just 167 innings pitched. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Ray, in his first year in Toronto, had a 13-7 record, 2.84 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 248 Ks in 193.1 IP. Going forward, Burnes will be the Brewers' ace for the foreseeable future, but Ray is a free agent whose price tag just went up since reigning Cy Young winners rarely make it to free agency.
Which brings us to today's quiz of the day. Prior to Burnes and Ray, the Brewers had not had a Cy Young winner since 1982, while the Jays had not had one since 2003. So with that in mind, how many of the last Cy Young winners for every MLB franchise can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
