Cap off your week with this single-game parlay

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

What's better than winning a bet to start your weekend? Winning a same-game parlay (SGP) bet, duh! I know neither of my parlays hit, but Thursday was an OK betting day overall. I hit on the moneyline and the spread in the Yankees vs. Red Sox game, picked Tony Gonsolin to win vs. the Cubs and went 4-2 with my quick picks.

I know, I know. You really wanted one of those two parlay bets to hit. Believe me, I did too. And they were what I refer to as "low-risk" parlay bets, but you know what? Friday's SGP is as low-risk as I've had in a while. Now it's not the game that's going to attract the national audience, but Friday's Angels vs. Orioles game has a ton of value on the SGP side of things. Why? The books are just not giving Baltimore enough respect. With Baltimore (-130) on the moneyline, adding another leg to get to plus odds is absolutely worth it.

The Play: Baltimore (moneyline) and Tyler Wells over 2.5 SO (+105 odds via DraftKings).

I wrote about it yesterday, and I'll say it again today. The Angels look lost when reigning American League MVP Shohei Ohtani isn't pitching. Following Thursday's 4-1 loss to Baltimore, Los Angeles is 0-5 in its last five games when Ohtani doesn't start, and the Angels have managed just six runs during that span. Ouch.

I know the Angels aren't good, but that's just bad. So, I'm riding Baltimore on the moneyline and Tyler Wells over 2.5 strikeouts as my two legs for this SGP. Wells isn't exactly a strikeout pitcher, but he's recorded at least three strikeouts in his last five starts. With the way Los Angeles is swinging the bats right now, I'm not sure they could hit water even if they fell out of a boat.

Plus, Reid Detmers is making his first start since coming off the injured list and has an ERA close to five this season. Not good. Baltimore may be dead last in the American League East, but the Orioles have won five in a row and are only four games under .500. The O's aren't exactly playoff contenders, but they're a lot better than people give them credit for. And with plus odds, I don't see an SGP that offers more value than this one on Friday. This is worth putting some money on. Maybe even big money.

In other news ...

Slafkovsky goes No. 1 in NHL Draft: The Montreal Canadiens selected Juraj Slafkovsky with the top pick in Thursday's NHL Draft. Shane Wright (-225) was the consensus favorite to go No. 1 overall heading in to the draft. As of late Wednesday night, odds on Montreal selecting Slafkovsky with the top pick were as high as 11-1.

Injured Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon: No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal withdrew from Friday's Wimbledon semifinal match against Nick Kyrgios on Thursday due to a torn abdominal muscle. Nadal (+650) had the second-best odds to win Wimbledon behind top-seeded Novak Djokovic.

Tringale leads Scottish Open after Day 1: Cameron Tringale (-9) leads the the 50th Genesis Scottish Open by four strokes after shooting a career-best 61 on Thursday. Tringale (+450) entered the Open at 150-1 odds to win the tournament but is now the favorite, followed by Jon Rahm and Gary Woodland at 8-1.

NASCAR Quaker State 400 wide open: The NASCAR Quaker State 400 (Sunday, 3 p.m. ET) is the next race on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule but has no clear-cut favorite. Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain are all tied with the best odds at 10-1 to win Sunday's big race.

Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev headline Saturday's UFC Fight Night: Rafael Dos Anjos (+180) vs. Rafael Fiziev (-220) at lightweight headline Saturday's UFC Fight Night. Saturday's UFC Fight Night from Las Vegas features 12 fights, including six on the main card.

Quick Picks

1 New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox

I like New York (-145) on the moneyline with Nestor Cortes pitching for the Yanks. Cortes hasn't been as sharp of late as he was in April and May, but he's still pitching well. Similar to Josh Winckowski, the inexperienced Connor Seabold is going for the Red Sox on Friday. Seabold has just two starts under his belt in the majors and has yet to make it through five innings. That's not a recipe for success, especially against the Yankees.
Friday, 7:10 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Yankees
-1 (-124) -154 > 9.5 (-108)
Red Sox
+1.5 (-118) +144 < 9.5 (-105)
2 Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves

If you've been reading Bark Bets this week, you know I'm high on whomever the Nationals are playing, especially if that opponent is in the NL East. Oh, what do you know? The Braves play in the NL East. Yes, you guessed it. I'm taking Atlanta -1.5 (-120) on the runline. Following Thursday's 5-3 loss to Philadelphia, the Nationals are a horrendous 7-30 vs. the NL East, including an even worse 2-19 in their last 21 games against division opponents. This is a no-brainer for me; I'm taking the Braves, which have won four straight, on the runline.
Friday, 7:20 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Nationals
+2.5 (-135) +220 > 8.5 (-135)
Braves
-1.5 (-117) -244 < 8.5 (-133)
3 Minnesota Twins @ Texas Rangers

The Twins sit atop the AL Central and have won back-to-back series, and the Rangers have dropped four straight and six of their last seven. I'm going to take the conventional approach and ride Minnesota (-100) on the moneyline. That's really good value, considering how good Minnesota has been and how much Texas is struggling. It's a pitching matchup of the Grays — Sonny Gray for Minnesota and Jon Gray for Texas — but Minnesota's Gray has been much better. I'm taking the Twins.
Friday, 8:05 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Twins
-1 (+112) +100 > 7.5 (-114)
Rangers
+1.5 (-164) +108 < 7.5 (+100)
4 Philadelphia Phillies @ St. Louis Cardinals

Remember when the Phillies were a mess under Joe Girardi a month ago? Yeah, those days are gone. Even without Bryce Harper, the Phils have had no problem. The Phillies just keep winning. With Kyle Schwarber mashing and Zack Wheeler starting for Philadelphia, I'm still taking the Phillies (-118) on the moneyline. I know the Cardinals won in extras on Thursday, but they've lost four of their last five and are just 2-5 so far in July.
Friday, 8:15 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Phillies
-1 (+106) -123 > 7.5 (-115)
Cardinals
+1.5 (-160) +113 < 7.5 (-118)
5 Houston Astros @ Athletics

For Friday's series opener between Houston and Oakland, it's pretty simple. Houston is really good, and Oakland is really bad. Take Houston -1.5 (-103) on the runline. The Astros have the second-best record in baseball, and Oakland has the worst record in baseball. Do miracles happen? Sure they do. Could Oakland beat Houston? Absolutely, but not likely. I don't see this one being that close.
Friday, 9:40 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Astros
-1.5 (+100) -175 > 7.5 (+100)
Athletics
+1.5 (-110) +162 < 7.5 (-110)
6 Toronto Blue Jays @ Seattle Mariners

The Mariners have won five straight, are 8-3 in their last 11 games and sit at exactly .500 overall. One reason why: Julio Rodriguez. He has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games and is currently the favorite for American League Rookie of the Year. Combine that with a pitching staff that has the fourth-best ERA in the AL, and you've got yourself a pretty good club. That's why I'm taking Seattle (-104) on the moneyline.
Friday, 10:10 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Blue Jays
-1 (+123) -105 > 8 (-125)
Mariners
+1.5 (-169) -104 < 8 (-109)
