Max Scherzer pitching prop has value

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

How's that for a Dinger Tuesday? The Philadelphia-Cincinnati game gave us seven homers, including two from our guy Rhys Hoskins, and Luis Renigfo delivered for us in the late game at +630. Yes, we stayed up sweating out a Jose Abreu HR to cash the ridiculous parlay but it wasn't meant to be.

Enough about that. Today's docket has served us a few good looking spots to attack some pitcher props, and we'll dive into the batters too for our favorite hit parlay.

Max Scherzer over 7.5 Ks (-125 DK)

Scherzer is unquestionably one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball. His Ks/inning rank in the 84th percentile, and his swinging strike rate is in the 93rd percentile of all MLB pitchers. While Scherzer has been under his strikeout prop total in three of his last four, there were some tough teams to strikeout in that stretch. He'll have a far easier team fanning some Braves today, as Atlanta is striking out at the third-highest rate against RHP over the past 30 days (and on the season). Scherzer has seen Atlanta twice in the last month, finishing with nine and 11 Ks in the two meetings. Today, we need to just go over 7.5, a bet we're more than willing to make.

Tony Gonsolin under 5.5 Ks (-145 DK)

Our second play will head to the under, fading Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin. Los Angeles will face Milwaukee today, a team that is both striking out at the eighth-fewest rate against righties and hitting RHPs extremely well. Together, that does not seem to bode well for Gonsolin's longevity in the game or tallying six strikeouts. Gonsolin is under this 5.5 total in 62% of games this season and he has gone under in seven of 11 road starts.

Hit parlay: Trea Turner and Francisco Lindor 1+ hit each (-110 FD)

In 10 plate appearances against today's starter Eric Lauer, Trea Turner is hitting .500. The Dodgers slugger has a hit in 28 of his past 30 games and has a better average when facing off against a LHP. Francisco Lindor has seen Braves pitcher Jake Odorizzi 31 times, hitting .414 off him. Lindor has a hit in 25 of his last 30 games and has a better average against righties. This combo feels right and we get it at extremely reasonable odds.

In other news ...

BMW Championship tees off tomorrow — The second FedEx Cup playoff event will begin tomorrow in Delaware as the PGA Tour season winds down. The BMW Championship field is packed with promising bets, and Rory McIlroy is currently the favorite despite missing the cut last weekend. This is probably a good space for us to pat ourselves on the back for talking about Tony Finau all week, right? Finau finished in the top 10 again. We're reinvesting our profits into Finau finishing in the top 10 once again, a bet available at +155 on FanDuel. We're also willing to place a wager on Will Zalatoris going back-to-back. We're seeing +1600 for that outcome.

WNBA playoffs begin today — The WNBA postseason tips off today with the defending champs Chicago Sky hosting the New York Liberty and the top-seeded Las Vegas Aces facing off against the Phoenix Mercury. The eight-team field is structured in three rounds. The first is best-of-three, and the subsequent two are best-of-five. We took a look at the odds for both the Round 1 winners and the eventual champs and have settled on the Washington Mystics winning at +1200 as our favorite betWashington owns the top defense in the league, and with star Elena Delle Donne healthy again, we're banking on this Mystics team recapturing the magic that led to a 2019 title.

NFL news and notes, including Zach Wilson, George Pickens — First round of cuts are beginning in the NFL as we approach the second week of the preseason. It appears Zach Wilson avoided a serious injury after the internet was alive with rumors of a torn ACL. Wilson had successful knee surgery, and Joe Flacco is expected to start Week 1 for the Jets while Wilson recovers. Hype is growing strong for Steelers rookie WR George Pickens after a nice first showing. Whether it's Diontae Johnson lauding his talent or Mike Tomlin's faith in the young pass catcher, it's hard to not consider a bet on Pickens to win Rookie of the Year at +1100.

Quick Picks

1 Baltimore Orioles @ Toronto Blue Jays

We're giving the over another chance in this Baltimore-Toronto series today. We've got a pair of righties on the mound in Austin Voth and Ross Stripling, and both teams continue to rank inside the top 10 of hitting when seeing a right-hander. The weather is helping us today, with a 8% boost to runs scored. We'll take over 8.5 runs in this afternoon game to get our day started.
Wednesday, 3:07 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Orioles
+1.5 (-135) +155 > 8.5 (-110)
Blue Jays
-1 (-121) -165 < 8.5 (+102)
2 San Diego Padres @ Miami Marlins

In a series finale, we're willing to go back to a play that makes sense but lost the day prior. We have a San Diego offense that knocks righties and a Miami lineup that can't do the same. Mike Clevinger of the Padres is conceivably in a good spot to get the Padres a victory; he's allowed fewer than two runs in four of his last five starts. We're loading up on San Diego at -145.
Wednesday, 4:10 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Padres
-1 (-115) -149 > 6.5 (-147)
Marlins
+1.5 (-134) +140 < 6.5 (-105)
3 New York Mets @ Atlanta Braves

Max Scherzer has had Atlanta's number in the past two seasons. In his last four starts against them, he has allowed three total runs over 24.1 innings pitched. Not only is he limiting their bats, but he's striking them out too, as we highlighted above. He's finished with nine and 11 Ks in two games against the Braves, and we're betting on the Mets bouncing back after their offense couldn't do a thing last night. New York -147 is the play for us.
Wednesday, 7:20 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Mets
-1 (-117) -145 > 7.5 (-108)
Braves
+2.5 (-225) +136 < 7.5 (+100)
4 Colorado Rockies @ St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis delivered us a win yesterday and it seems like they could be doing so again. This Cardinals lineup hits right-handers well and got eight hits off of Colorado starter German Marquez when he faced them just six days ago. Jordan Montgomery has made two strong starts to begin his Cardinals career, not yet allowing a run. Considering Colorado's struggles against lefties, we like another good outing from Montgomery. St. Louis -1 is our bet.
Wednesday, 7:45 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Rockies
+1.5 (-125) +180 > 7 (-105)
Cardinals
-1.5 (+114) -200 < 7 (-135)
5 Los Angeles Dodgers @ Milwaukee Brewers

It's Eric Lauer vs Tony Gonsolin on the mound, and they're two pitchers we don't love for tonight. The Dodgers are hitting lefties better than nearly anyone. The Brewers have had similar results against RHPs. The weather is suggesting a 10% boost to homers, and that's enough for us. We'll go with over 8 runs in this one.
Wednesday, 8:10 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Dodgers
-1.5 (+102) -164 > 8 (-114)
Brewers
+1.5 (-106) +152 < 8 (-120)
6 Phoenix Mercury @ Las Vegas Aces

Las Vegas is 3-0 against Phoenix this year with an average margin of victory of 16.7 points. While Phoenix secured a playoff spot, this is not a good team. Diana Taurasi is out, as is star Skylar Diggins-Smith due to a suspension. The Aces own the top offense in the league while the Mercury come into this without their leading scorers. This shouldn't be a contest; bet Las Vegas -12.5.
Wednesday, 10:00 PM Eastern SPREAD MONEY LINE OVER / UNDER
Mercury
+16.5 (-112) +1050 > 167.5 (-108)
Aces
-12.5 (-200) -1400 < 167.5 (-113)
