As we head into the weekend, let's turn our attention to the bats to find us some hot hitters worth backing on this beautiful Friday evening.
Let's hit these two bets
Betting: Shohei Ohtani over 1.5 total bases (-120 DraftKings)
Few players are hotter than Shohei Ohtani right now. The Angels star has a hit in 12 straight games and 15 of his last 16, and he's brought the power alongside his consistent bat.
Ohtani has piled up 2+ total bases in 11 of his past 12 games, averaging 4.17 TBs per game. It's quite the streak and one we should feel comfortable getting behind tonight. Brady Singer is on the mound for the Royals, and he has been anything but a dominant pitcher this year. Singer brings a 1.59 WHIP to the table and has allowed 5+ hits in 11 of his last 12 outings, often getting whacked for extra-base hits.
Ohtani should have no issue getting bat on ball, as he's hitting .308 against RHP this season, and Singer is also more generous to left-handed batters. It all comes up Ohtani, so load up another solid day for the superstar.
Betting: Billy McKinney & Bryson Stott 1+ hit each (+133 DraftKings)
Billy McKinney has been a steady presence since joining the Yankees lineup on June 8, recording a hit in all seven games since. He's hit for power as well, averaging 2.3 total bases per game, so consider his 2+ total bases prop at +150 on FanDuel.
We're instead opting for just another hit. McKinney has seen Boston starter Tanner Houck twice since 2017, knocking a double off him, and Houck has allowed lefties to find success against him.
We pair McKinney's hits with another streaking batter in Bryson Stott of Philadelphia. Stott has a hit in 80% of his games this year, including 12 total over his past six.
That's a streak we need to ride, and we like him to find success against today's starter in JP Sears. Stott is hitting .329 vs. LHP this season, while Sears has allowed LHB to hit .314 off him.
Together, the two come in at a solid +133.
In the news ...
First day of U.S. Open sees 62s from Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler — By the time this hits your inbox, Round 2 will be well underway, but it shouldn't change the fact that both Schauffele and Fowler got off to roaring starts on Thursday. Their 62s were the lowest recorded rounds in U.S. Open history, and it shot them up the board, both with odds shorter of +600 as of Thursday night. If Round 1 was any indication, we're in for a thrilling weekend at Los Angeles Country Club.
Devils sign Jesper Bratt to massive extension —The New Jersey Devils inked forward Jesper Bratt to an eight-year, $63 million deal. Bratt was a pivotal piece of the Devils' surprisingly strong season and an important member to retain as they look ahead to 2023-24. New Jersey is tied for the fifth-best odds to win the Stanley Cup next year at +1200.
Bucks emerging as potential landing spot for Bradley Beal — According to a report from Brian Windhorst, keep your eye on the Milwaukee Bucks as the Bradley Beal sweepstakes ramp up. It is seeming more and more likely that Washington moves Beal, and that may very well happen in the next week. Adding the All-Star guard to this Bucks roster is tantalizing, and Milwaukee is currently +650 to win next year's NBA championship.
