When the Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, it was obvious to everyone that he would be the team's starting QB sooner rather than later — obvious to everyone but Richardson himself, apparently. On Tuesday, first-year head coach Shane Steichen announced that Richardson would be his Week 1 starter, which caught the rookie signal-caller by surprise. "Honestly, I was shocked. I’ve been grinding, putting in the work to get the title, but it’s not really all about the title. I’m just trying to make sure I’m ready for the team. Despite being labeled as QB1, I’ve still got other guys in the room helping me to get to that standard. I’m forever thankful for them. I appreciate them, and I’m glad I did get the nod and have the trust of everybody in the building." Richardson and the Colts host Trevor Lawrence and division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.
