The New York Yankees have the best record in all of baseball, and a big reason for their success has been the superb play of rookie pitcher Luis Gil. He missed all of the 2023 season following Tommy John surgery, and only secured a spot in New York's rotation due to Gerrit Cole's injury. But the 26-year-old has been sensational through the first two months of the season, and was named AL Rookie of the Month and AL Pitcher of the Month for May. There is still a lot of season left to play, but if Gil can keep playing at this high a level, the sky is the limit for the Bronx Bombers come playoff time.
Which brings us to today's quiz of the day. Right now, Gil is on pace for over 200 strikeouts, and if he gets there, he will be one of just a few rookies to reach that mark in the last four decades. So with that in mind, how many of the MLB rookie pitchers with the most strikeouts in a season since 1984 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
