When the 2024 Home Run Derby begins tonight, New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso will make history as the first player to appear in five consecutive Derby’s. He won back-to-back titles in his first two appearances (including his rookie year), and leads all players in home runs since his Major League debut in 2019 with 210. With the Mets well behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East but firmly in the fight for a Wild Card spot, rumors are swirling around Alonso’s future in Flushing. If the Mets brass decides to make a true push for the postseason, Alonso will certainly be part of that push. But if not, he could find himself in a new jersey by the end of the month.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. If the Polar Bear is able to capture another Home Run Derby title, he’ll join Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players to win the event three times. With that being said, can you name every player to win the Home Run Derby since it began in 1985?
Good luck!
Note: There was no HR Derby in 2020 due to COVID-19.
