Happy Monday, sports bettors. It's an unusually quiet day around the sports world, but some of the best power hitters in MLB are getting together to hit some bombs for our amusement. Let's scour the betting board and find some winners for the Home Run Derby.
Honing in on the Home Run Derby
Bobby Witt Jr. to win (+470 FanDuel)
Pete Alonso has two wins in the last four editions of the Home Run Derby, but we're fading him with a different pick this year. We like Witt to lift the trophy on Monday night.
Witt's advanced metrics point to him being a bigger favorite in this event. The Kansas City Royals star ranks first in this field in max exit velocity (116.9), average home run distance (418) and max home run distance (468). Witt is the best pure hitter in this year's Home Run Derby, and we love his upside based on his advanced batting profile.
Alec Bohm under 109.5 highest recorded exit velocity HR (-120 DraftKings)
Bohm is by far the weakest contender in the 2024 Home Run Derby. The Philadelphia Phillies third baseman ranks last in the field in max exit velocity, as his hardest-hit ball of the season came off the bat at just 110.8 mph. It's hard to imagine he'll be able to match his highest speed with a home run on Monday night coming on a much slower pitch than he's used to hitting.
Bohm also has the lowest projected total for the first round at 18.5, so he has statistically the worst chance to make the semifinals. That just means fewer swings and fewer chances to hit this over.

Spain defeats England to win Euros; Argentina knocks off Columbia to win Copa America — What a Sunday it was for soccer fans around the globe. In the Euro 2024 final, Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the 86th minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift Spain over England. A few hours later, after a lengthy delay due to crowd control issues at Hard Rock Stadium, Argentina inched past Columbia in the Copa America final thanks to a Lautaro Martinez goal in extra time. If you cashed a future on Spain at +800 or Argentina at +175, congratulations!
Carlos Alcaraz crushes Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon final — For the second straight year, Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon final to secure the third Grand Slam of the season. This one wasn't as competitive, as the Spaniard won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. Alcaraz has now won three of the last five Grand Slam tournaments, and this duo has combined to win eight of the last nine. With the US Open just a month away, Alcaraz is the betting favorite at +105 to win his third Grand Slam in a row.
Robert MacIntyre wins Genesis Scottish Open in thrilling fashion — In one of the best sports stories of the year, MacIntyre won the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday by drilling a 22-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole of the tournament. A Scotland native, MacIntyre always said his national open was the non-major tournament he wanted to win the most. After a brutal defeat at the hands of Rory McIlroy last year, the lefty went 4-under in his last five holes to wrest the trophy from Adam Scott's clutches. MacIntyre is 40-1 to win The Open Championship this week.
