The New York Knicks announced last week that guard Jalen Brunson will serve as their 36th captain in franchise history for the 2024-2025 season. 

Brunson, who finished fifth in MVP voting last season and averaged 28.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, already exhibited his team-first mentality by forgoing a five-year, $269 million extension in favor of a four-year, $156.5 million deal this offseason. 

The extra financial flexibility should help Brunson and the Knicks in “chasing Boston,” as they try to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since losing to the San Antonio Spurs in 1999 — when Brunson was just two years old.
